I’ve decided how I want to go
And I’ll forgo schematic endings.
When I leave, I’ll leave alone
With each goodbye static and pending.

None I know shall watch me board
And none will know how hot my tears
For all of those that I adored
And won’t see again, I fear.

Because when I packed and checked my bags,
They had only things for my journey to come
And nothing of my abandoned memory’s rags
And thus I’ll fly to my future with my heart newly numb.

Once I reach the International Date Line,
My first day in my new life begins.
With slate clean and my fate mine,
That dawn will be the first to see me grin.

“Soon all the joy that pours from everything makes fountains of your eyes
because you finally understand the movement of a hand waving you good-bye.”
- C. Oberst

My heart has grown heavy
Too heavy really for me
To carry or even lift
And so I asked you for help.

You took in yours my hand
And together we made a stand
You gave willingly to me a gift
Too broad and deep to be felt.

But our strength began to fail
As we held your burdened heart with mine.
We got the point like the tip of a nail:
We can never be enough combined.

“So that is how I learned the lesson that everyone is alone.
And your eyes must do some raining if you are ever going to grow.”
- C. Oberst
