/me raises his hands in frustration. supreme frustration.
What doesn’t make sense in this headline: “Bush calls for restraint in Iraq after Shiite shrine bombing” ?
- Bush denounced the bombing that razed the gilded dome of the Shiites’ 1,000-year-old Imam Ali al-Hadi mausoleum, but urged Iraqis to avoid further bloodshed.
‘I ask all Iraqis to exercise restraint in the wake of this tragedy, and to pursue justice in accordance with the laws and constitution of Iraq. Violence will only contribute to what the terrorists sought to achieve,’ he said.
heLLO!
“Hi, Alpha Centarui, this is Helios. I just wanted to let you know that you’re a flaming ball of hydrogen sitting in the cold vacuum of space. I was wondering if maybe you could not warp the fabric of time and space so much? You’re cramping my gravity well.”
Elsewhere in the universe, the video rendering for a certain documentary is finshing as I type. Time to move on to sound (correction).
First cut almost finished! Gotta do the closing remarks and then move on to the titling and sound mastering.
This picture is provocative: We Do Not Torture People.
As foreshadowed earlier, here is the written test for my shodan exam. From these 10 points, the examiners will choose 4 and I’ll have to fill-in-the-blanks that they choose.

Holy mother of GPL! I’ve found my favorite sauce of ALL TIME! Dinners will be delicious from here on out. Oh, and other pictures are up from the field trip. [clicky]
In other news, the doco’s flow has been outlined, and the length will be about 25 minutes. Most of the work is in front of me still. uf
It was an aquarium/fishery trip. The students pulled a net in from the beach and saw what fish live out in the bay. Turns out we have fugu!
And the Guardian has a great piece about the winter climate here in Japan:
- Japan, the world’s second-largest economy, has no domestic sources of fossil fuel and, facing rising oil prices, has turned energy efficiency into an art form. Japan’s oil consumption has remained steady since 1975, while world consumption has risen steadily. It has dramatically diversified its power sources over the years, becoming far less dependent on oil and cultivating a culture of conservation.
…
That has helped make Japan’s energy consumption per person almost half that of the US. Conservation fever swept the nation after the Kyoto protocol, the 1997 treaty written in Japan that aims to reduce greenhouse gases.
Steady oil use since 1975. That’s 30 years. THIRTY YEARS!
At least the Big Search Engine the sky says it’ll only hold your data for 30 days. At least it’s not permanent. At least I’m not still wary. or not
I may go fishing at the ocean on Friday. I’m going on the 1st year field trip, and from what I could understand of the description, there will fish and nets and ocean in involved….
google has now seriously made me doubt its motives. They’re no longer some benevolent non-Microsoft BigCorp mascot, but just an overly ambitious and deathly efficient search engine (no more political/philosophical repsect). In spite of their trumpted “hell no, we ain’t giving you our users’ search records, you nosey non-warrant wielding Feds!” actions, their recent internal contradictions (censoring searchers in China != “Do no evil”) may have been the slippery slope they needed to allow them to have a change in heart about their hesitation to share your searches with people who think they know better than you. In fact, it’s more than just “Ok, here you go!”; it’s more like: “Ok, here you go! Oh, and we also included all the files on their computer, just in case you would ever be curious”. Yes, that’s right, your Favorite Search Engine is now copying your hard drive to their servers, for indexing and faster results, naturally. I’m glad that Google Desktop isn’t available for my system, cos I’d prolly be using it (until today).
What’s even worse, their corporate philosophy has matched to suit the new direction. What used to read “Do no Evil” on google’s corporate (mis)information page has been replaced with “You can make money without doing evil”. fuck!
At least, there’s a new option for all you digital music buyers (not that it’s only limited to that lonely lot). Sucks when your Yahoo! files won’t play in iTunes, doesn’ it? And, it’s based on the firefox trunk, so you can browse the web and stream freely. Oh, and it’s open source, and plays nicely with more codecs than you have fingers (and will soon be adding operating systems to that comparison as well).
Only 5 more Wednesday Japanese lessons to go. I’m kinda glad it’ll be over. I’ll use Wednesday to go out and practice! After all, anything can happen on a Wednesday.
tho prolly not getting paid off by a gay democrat.
The Aussies need more people like me. EXcellent, Smithers.
My shodan test for iai is next month, and there’s a written component (uf). So, I’m spending my free time at school (which is a _lot_ now) studying the kanji in the questions and the answers. I like it, but will definitely get nervous come March. I’ll post them this week maybe.
I want more time to learn stuff! I wanna study more about programming again. Learn some data strutures and algorythms. Make an app in C for POSIX. Make a gui with Qt. I’m writing some pretty complicated scripts (sh), but want something more. I want to meet up with others who are interested and share and learn. I also wanna be a POSIX sysadmin. Now _that’s_ scary. Too much software, where’d my hardware roots go? I but I just need to get in a lab again, that’ll fix me.
Well, the doco’s due in a month. Tonight I’ll be transferring footage from DV to my lappy.
In case you’ve been following the latest international flame fest, I finally found the fuel. Over in the open source dimension, we get into flame fests about vi or emacs, Gnome or KDE, BSD or GNU, and the wholly holy Windows or Linux. I cannot relate.
